Small OKC Gulf Station

In 1977, Jack Frost Founded Frost Oil.

1977

Frost Oil Co. Founded

Frost Oil Co. was founded on May 21, 1977, when Jack Frost purchased a Gulf Oil distributorship and moved his family from Oklahoma City to Fort Smith, Arkansas. At the time of his purchase, the company was selling approximately 40,000 gallons of fuel and 500 gallons of lubricants monthly and had a staff of three employees. In those early days, Jack would work long hours in the office and make sales calls during the day, and in the evenings jump into a truck and deliver product to customers. As a result of Jack’s efforts, Frost Oil grew steadily over the years by emphasizing his three key principles – honesty, hard work and customer service.

1985

Jeff Frost Joins the Company

After graduating from college and spending a short stint in the transportation and logistics industry, Jack’s son Jeff Frost joined the company in 1985. As with so many small, family-owned jobberships, Jeff learned the oil and fuel business from the ground up by working under his father’s guidance. Working together, Jack and Jeff continued to grow the company over the next several years through a combination of steady organic growth and a series of strategic acquisitions.

1993

Expansion Begins

With the acquisition of Mountain Valley Oil in 1993, Jeff entered into the first of eight transactions under which the company acquired regional competitors. Additional transactions are highlighted below.

1998 - 2001

Ownership Transfer

As the company grew and prospered and Jeff’s tenure in the business lengthened, the stock ownership was purchased from Jack by Jeff and his wife LaDonna between 1998 and 2001. Over the years LaDonna has served an important and key role as the company’s controller and corporate secretary.

2002

Liberty Transport

Reflecting the growth of the company and its transportation needs, Liberty Transport LLC was established as a separate entity in 2002. Liberty hauls Frost’s fuel volume and also serves as a common carrier for unaffiliated fuel distributors, utilizing trucks based in Fort Smith, Springdale, Tulsa and Muskogee.

2005 - 2011

Expansion Continues

During this period of time the company closed four additional acquisitions, resulting in the expansion of Frost’s marketing area for both fuel and lubricant sales:

2005 Patterson Oil, Clarksville, AR

2006 Sunburst Energy, Poteau, OK

2007 Mid-South Sales (lubes division), Fayetteville, AR

2011 Fuels & Supplies (lubes division), Springdale, AR

2013

In Memory of Jack Frost

Jack relinquished his day to day duties in 2001, but remained as a mentor and advisor to Jeff until his death in 2013. Today, all Frost Oil vehicles proudly display a commemorative medallion honoring Jack and the foundation he worked so hard to lay that has made Frost Oil what it is today.

2018 - 2019

Oklahoma Expansion

Frost’s most recent expansion efforts have been focused on significantly growing our footprint in Eastern Oklahoma.  The company successfully acquired Ethridge Oil (January 2018), B&J Oil (August 2018) and Bowers Oil (October 2019) during this period.  Based in the Tulsa/Muskogee markets, all three companies have long and respected histories providing commercial fuel and lubricants to a wide range of customers.

2020

Frost Oil Today

Frost Oil as it exists today bears little resemblance to the small business acquired by Jack – we are now one of the largest marketers of fuel and lubricants in our four-state marketing area. However, one thing that has remained constant is our commitment to Jack’s key principles and our belief that our best and strongest asset is the quality and professionalism of our employees. The success of Frost Oil has always been, and will always be, about our people.  Additionally, the third generation of the Frost family is now involved with the company as Jeff’s son Dalton joined us in 2019.
